CANTERBURY TALES BEGIN!

Hello mates!

I've been here in Canterbury a few days now and it's amazing. Lots has already happened; three of my classes, the quaint city center with old brick roads and old brick buildings the surprise appearance of McDonalds and Gap. For today's blog, let me tell you about my first night.

The first night was, well, interesting. Due to a little confusion and a good price, I was the last and only student to arrive Monday. My flight was delayed from 8pm to 2am (thank you Jessi, Danny, and Michael for keeping me sane in the airport).
I slept through the daylight, as we took off and I soon went to sleep and slept almost through the whole flight, landing in London around 4pm, when the sun was setting.
My driver was Stewart, the sweetest old British guy ever, who immediately asked me if I needed to use the loo. I didn't actually get to see London, as we got right on the road to Canterbury, nor did i really get to see the famous English countryside as it had become dark as soon as we were on the road.
Upon arrival at Canterbury Christ Church University the International Office was closed and reception hadn't a clue as to who the fuck I was. The driver knew I was staying at Parham Road, so we tried our luck there. The Warden, not to much surprise, had no clue as to who the fuck I was. So he made about three or four phone calls and discovered I was in number 12. He helped me with my bags, opened the door to my flat and said "Alright then, stay alive." and took off.
I put down my bags, looked at my room, which was slightly larger than by 7ft x 7ft room at home, and plopped on my bed. I tried the bathroom (marked "WC" for "Water Closet") across from my room, which had no shower and a 3in x 4in mirror on the wall. I sat back down on my bed and sighed "What am I doing here?"
Then, with my best Julie Andrews attitude as she sings "Confidence" in the Sound of Music, I decided to get up, be self-sufficient as I aimed to be by going on this trip, and go discover life outside my flat (and perhaps a phone).
Immediately upon exiting, I hear an American accent yell "Pat!" and discover my housemate, Mike, who was partying two doors down. He showed me the rest of the flat, which I found came complete with a kitchen, living room, and my choice of two larger bathrooms (with slightly larger mirrors, and showers) upstairs. Shortly afterwards, the girls came back from dinner, when Mallory Sims screamed my name and jumped into my arms. "We're in England!" she yelled. Immediately, I was at ease and could not agree more.

Much more to follow in the upcoming weeks/months. I have a lot of plans as of now. During school, we plan on going to Paris, Amsterdam, and Ireland. After school we have about ten days left to travel. Tentatively, my semi-circle of Europe starts in Brussels, to Berlin, to Salzburg, to Venice, to Florence, to Rome, then somehow back to London.

Thank God for Facebook so I can keep in touch with y'all. But if anyone wants to call me I have a cell phone now. It's free for me to recieve but probably expensive for you, so try and buy one of those international phone cards from walgreens if you wanna chat. It's 7 pence (14 cents) a minute for me to call you, which is fine by me. I'll try to let you know via Facebook when I'm gonna call. Keep in touch!

Good luck with auditions!
